Saving Time & Energy with VolunteerSpot

Saving Time & Energy with Free Sign Ups by VolunteerSpot

Have you ever felt like you were putting lots of time and energy into busy-work just to get to the meaningful work? Nowhere is this notion more pertinent than in the classroom. When it comes to getting parents involved, experienced to new teachers, and room moms & dads, devote large amounts of energy simply to getting organized – posting sign ups, sending notes home in backpacks, emailing, and picking up the pieces when things fall through.

One of my favorite tools for saving energy (and time) and working to support getting parents involved is VolunteerSpot.com! VolunteerSpot’s free online sign up sheets let parents sign up to help almost instantly from their computer or smart phone, and automated reminders help everyone keep their commitments. VolunteerSpot puts an end to reply-all emails, phone chains, and frustrated parents and teachers.

I’m excited to be joining the BlogHer January Blogging series, a series of blog prompts that bloggers agree to write about each day. The blogosphere is going to be active with the hashtag  #NaBloPoMo and I have made the commitment to post daily for the month of January, so wish me luck! While participating, I hope to push myself to be creative and grow in my ability to be a better blogger. It would be great for you to participate with me by commenting on my post with your own take on the topic. (Weekends are free write days!)

Thank you for stopping by!

(Full Disclosure: I met the folks at team VolunteerSpot a few years ago when they were just starting up and have been wowed by their useful tools and amazing growth (now more than 2.5 million users!).  When I heard about their new look, I volunteered to share. I have recently participated in professional development webinars with VolunteerSpot’s founder, Karen Bantuveris – including this great one on Parent Teacher Conference Best Practices.)

Hi Lisa! This is a great idea! I have never heard of this group before. I used to work with Hospice and coordinate all the volunteers. This seems to be a program that could be used there to. I am going to pass it along to the new coordinator. Thanks for posting and I look forward to getting to know you better in our Goodblog class.
